It’s a beautiful day outside today. After breakfast, we decided to take a walk out on a nearby trail. I figured, it’s a shady trail, plenty of trees and stops on the way, what can go wrong?
Let me start with the fantastic views.
Wooded areas all over and benches and picnic tables every 1/4 mile or so. A creek was also along side of the trail. The entire trail is over 4 miles one way. What’s missing? A bathroom. Lets just say I made it a mile and a half before my little one decided she’d kick my bladder.
The trail has several exits/entrances into surrounding neighborhoods. So, we headed out to the nearest main road with a gas station. After the detour, we headed back to the main entrance. I began to notice that my hands were very itchy. When I looked at them, they were red and as fat as sausages. Great. I’m retaining water. I didn’t even want to know what my feet looked like. We had to stop again. So much for trying to exercise. After 5 minutes, we headed back a mile to the entrance.
Other than the physical ailments, we walked 2.5 miles today. This is a new record while pregnant.
I am a frequent watcher of “The Talk” on CBS. So, imagine my excitement today when the show was a baby shower. The entire studio audience consisted of pregnant women 7 months and up. The show featured the latest baby products and a few items for mom. Now, cue the jealousy. Each studio audience member received one of each of the items featured. It reminded me of Oprahs Favorite Things show (tears). I am excited and happy that all of the soon to be mommies were being blessed with baby gifts. Some of the items did give me a few good ideas on what to include on my baby shower list. So, something positive came out of it for me.
They do have a giveaway on the CBS site, for those that are interested. I believe it’s for all of the items that were shown today. Of course, I entered.

Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. the last few days. I celebrated my 30th birthday on Sunday. I spent the day trying to relax. This week has been rough on my body. I’ve hit the 160 lb mark and I’m almost 6 months. My body is still trying to get adjusted to the weight gain.
According to my baby tracker, my little one is over a pound. I feel like she’s moved up in my stomach because it’s getting harder to breathe. Her Kung Fu is strong. She’s been using my bladder as either a pillow or kicking bag. That’s all for now. I hope to leave a meaningful post within the next few days.
Tomorrow we are heading back to my OB for my 5/6 month checkup. Afterwards, I thought it would be a good idea to go on a hospital tour where I will eventually be delivering. Both my daughters were born in the same hospital in Florida. Since this is a new state and new hospital for us, a tour is necessary. There is nothing worse than having your significant other driving you to the hospital and getting lost while you are in labor. My fear is he’ll drive to the wrong hospital. Our delivery hospital is in a cluster of other hospitals. So, knowing where to go and where to park is especially important.
This upcoming visit has prompted me to pack my hospital bag. I’m almost 6 months and it is better to be prepared than not. I thought this would be an easy project…Wrong.
I forgot that I don’t really have any clothes. I’m missing maternity underwear (eww), a going home outfit, and even a simple night gown. Packing will have to wait for another day.
How early have you started packing? What were some things you had to pack? I’m just curious about what other mothers have packed.
Well folks, my birthday is next Sunday. While I am not excited, I am definitely grateful and feeling blessed for another year. Why am I not excited? I’m turning 30. The big 3-0. I don’t know what it is about this number that has me so… Unexcited.. Scared, maybe.
I don’t feel 30. I don’t even look 30. Strangers look at me in shock when I tell them my age. I get excited when I’m carded for alcohol (pre-pregnancy folks, pre-pregnancy).
Maybe, because this year has been filled with so many changes. New city, new baby on the way, and new adjustments. So different from last year at this time.
As I sit here and reflect on my upcoming future, I can’t help but remember the past. Being pregnant at 30, is very different than being pregnant at 19 and 23. While each of those ages for me mark a significant milestone, age 30 has been very different. Pregnancy complications, body changes, and emotions.
I’m even celebrating differently this year. No big fuss, nothing special. I would just like to spend this time with my kids and boyfriend. Absolutely no partying.
Well, to all of you April birthdays this year, Happy Birthday.
Side note: My birthday is earth day!
I read something this morning about baby shower hostess gifts. It made me realize that I need to start thinking about a gift for my hostess. I’m looking for some suggestions on what I can get her. She’s taking care of so much with this shower. She is also my photographer. Double duty.
What gifts have you gotten your hostess, or what are you planning to give?
